Product DescriptionGraphite Electrode Graphite electrode is a conductive carbon rod, primarily used in Ultra High Power (UHP) Electric Arc Furnaces (EAFs), to generate intense heat (over 3,500°C) that melts scrap steel for recycling, leveraging graphite's unique properties like high thermal conductivity, electrical conductivity, and strength at extreme temperatures. These large cylindrical electrodes, made from needle coke, form an electric arc with the metal, enabling efficient, resource-saving steel production.
How They Work in Steelmaking
Current Delivery: Massive electrical current is sent through the graphite electrodes.
Arc Formation: An electric arc forms between the electrode tips and the steel scrap.
Melting: The arc's intense heat melts the scrap into new steel.
Assembly: Electrodes are connected into columns using threaded nipples for continuous operation.
Applications Beyond Steelmaking
Electrochemical Cells: Used as counter electrodes in corrosion testing and other lab applications due to chemical stability.
EDM (Electrical Discharge Machining): Used as tools for shaping metal.
